Identification of a microbial sub-community from the feral chicken gut that reduces Salmonella colonization and improves gut health in a gnotobiotic chicken model

 

        In a quest to understand the battlefield of gut microbiomes, we explored 1,300 bacterial strains from chicken guts, pinpointing 30 that battle Salmonella. They then crafted 66 potent blends, with Mix10 emerging as the ultimate hero, fighting multiple Salmonella strains in chickens. Mix10’s success lies in outcompeting Salmonella or bolstering chicken immunity. Intriguingly, some Mix10 members are fleeting visitors, while others dominate. Two of these heroes were previously unknown. This research not only sheds light on gut microbe resilience but also hints at new allies in the fight against gut invaders. Here’s to our inner warriors and the health they safeguard!
