Key necroptotic proteins are required for Smac mimetic-mediated sensitization of cholangiocarcinoma cells to TNF-α and chemotherapeutic gemcitabine-induced necroptosis

      Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a lethal cancer of the bile duct and currently there is no effective therapy for this disease. This study demonstrates that induction of necroptosis, a form of cell death, by using a smac mimetic, sensitized the CCA cells to gemcitabine-induced killing. This study has pivotal implications for the designing of a novel necroptosis-based therapeutic strategy for CCA patients.
